Botox® Procedure for Wrinkles
Botox® Cosmetic is used to soften the look of wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck. It is made from a small amount of the diluted neurotoxic protein, botulinum toxin, which blocks nerve impulses, therefore relaxing muscle contractions and softening wrinkles. Essentially, this product “freezes” the muscle, allowing the skin to naturally recover, and impedes further wrinkling. Some of the most common areas treated are fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead wrinkles, deep furrowed brows, and frown and laugh lines.
What to Expect with Botox®
Botox® Cosmetic is administered in the office in just a few minutes. It is injected using a very fine needle under topical anesthesia (ice or numbing cream) and most patients experience very little discomfort during or after treatment. While results typically begin to show 5 – 7 days after the Botox® treatment, up to two weeks may pass before the full effects are seen. Results last for about 3 – 6 months. Subsequent treatments may help achieve even longer-lasting results.
Juvederm® Dermal Filler
Dermal fillers are among the most popular nonsurgical methods for restoring youthful fullness to the face. Some people even refer to dermal fillers as “the liquid facelift”!
Juvederm® smooth gel filler is used to instantly smooth away wrinkles, add fullness to lips, enhance contours of the face and fill in shallow scars. The smooth gel fills the soft tissue of the dermis, instantly adding volume and diminishing the appearance of wrinkles. Juvederm® is also used to instantly create full, well-defined lips and to correct common cosmetic flaws such as asymmetry, scarring and vertical wrinkling.
Juvederm® is tissue-friendly and closely resembles a naturally occurring material in our body called hyaluronic acid. The clear gel is a fully degradable complex carbohydrate that is not extracted from animals, meaning there is no risk of allergic reaction. Used around the world for years, this product has an outstanding safety record.
What to Expect with Juvederm® XC
Juvederm® XC is blended with the anesthetic lidocaine to provide patients with a more comfortable experience. The lidocaine numbs the treatment area within seconds and, coupled with topical anesthesia (ice or numbing cream), most patients report very minimal pain. If requested, we can also use a local anesthetic block to numb the area.
The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to complete and results are immediate. Side effects are rare, typically short-lived, and include bruising and swelling. Appointments should be made with the knowledge that some swelling may occur for a day or two following the procedure. Results may last up to a year.
